Formerly the QA Director of Egreetings Network,
Inc., a top 50 website, I'm now VP of Consulting for SpiralTest, Inc.
At Egreetings, we achieved some very remarkable
results, emerging from a development organization with no requirements or process. Ultimately, we were able to
fully automate new QA tests *before* code was built. Our functional tests (black-box) achieved near 100% functional
coverage. We maintained over 1600 regression tests, supporting daily releases with only
2-4 hours of daily maintenance required. Generally weekly releases were application defect free. Each major project
release had less than 1undiscovered application defect.
Ultimately this QA practice was a major contributor to shortened
time-to-market for projects that were delivered consistently early, and with near-zero defect rates.
I've attached my case study. For "academic" reasons, I've not revealed the tools used to accomplish this
in the paper.
-Caliber RBT was used to design test cases with near 100% functional coverage -SpiralTest was used to automate
tests *before* code builds, and to maintain large automated test suites by non-technical resources in little time
-Mercury Interactive's WinRunner was used to execute automated tests.
