Class: "Software Quality Testing"
Improve Your Marketability to Systems & Software
Firms
Can You Answer Some Elementary Questions?
- Provide a formal definition of Software Engineering
- What is the SDLC? What are the phases of the SDLC?
- Provide a formal definition of Software Quality
- What are the characteristics of Software Quality?
- Provide a formal definition of Software Testing
Ready for an Interview?
The Interview is the "Acid Test" of Your Credibility
- In an interview, your credibility is "on
the line"
- To establish credibility, a job candidate needs
professional answers to professional questions about
software eng?rg, quality and testing (like answers to
the questions above).
- Without professional answers to those questions, a
candidate demonstrates a lack of professional knowledge.
- To a hiring manager, a lack of knowledge = unqualified candidate
Therefore, the ability to articulate formal definitions
and vocabulary during an interview is a valuable skill.
Times Have Changed---Either Adapt or Perish
- The "hot? job market from
1995-2000 (in which many
found jobs in software quality and software testing,
even with little knowledge) IS GONE. The job market
has changed drastically---Many who worked in software
quality and software testing are now unemployed.
- Also, there is real competition for jobs now.
Interviews are more rigorous and employers are more
demanding.
- To land a job in the software domain, some formal
knowledge of software eng?rg/software development is
necessary---along with formal knowledge of software
quality and software testing.
- To be credible, a person must be able to articulate
software concepts and principles correctly. Without
those skills, success in the job search is risky.
Who can afford that risk?
Software Quality & Manual Testing
- A foundation-level course
- Based on IEEE standards and vocabulary (not - invented
definitions)
- A hands-on course of moderate rigor (not just textbook
academics).
Core subjects include:
- Software Engineering (overview)
- Software QA
- Software Quality
- Software Test Engineering
- Software Quality Engineering
- Software Testing
Supplemental focus subjects:
- IEEE-compliant Test Engineering
documents
- IEEE-compliant Software Testing documents
Need a skill-set improvement, but are cost-sensitive?Then
this class is the right answer.
