Migration Testing

Question:
I would like to know what is Migration Testing. What are the issues
involved which need to looked for while testing mirgation?
How do you go about migration testing?
Is there any web resource available for reference.
Thanks,
Husein

Answer:
MIGRATION TESTING
Migraration Testing is a kind of Compatibility testing where we check the compatibility of our product with different combination of softwares/hardwares.

1) As the company migrates from one platform or operating system to another, we need assurance that our applications, infrastructure, and data will make the transition intact.
2) It cannot be assumed that existing desktop-based and server-based applications will successfully run on a different operating system platform, either workstation or server based.
3) Therefore, it is important that all applications, should be identified and tested prior to migration. If any applications have not been tested, the risk of work flow break up increases. You must weigh this risk for each set of applications against the cost it will incur.
